- Mimio0
I'm looking at joining again.

I think my brother is (student member).
- d_rek0
I couldn't justify renewing my student membership for a professional one... IMO the benefits don't amount to more than additional networking and occasionally having drinks with some of the biggest douchebags i have ever met in my life.
- tedismyfav0
Should be but i'm not. Get to go to the same lectures they put on for free anyway....and linkedin works for the same networking, well not the same but enough for now as the MI design world sucks as bad now as this economy
- d_rek0
Yeah I like that they put on events and lectures but I always donate something to them or buy the things they sell. All you're really paying for is a shiny AIGA card that is only good for a year anyway... and it's not like you *need* AIGA to network..
- mcLeod0
true d_rek. I attend KC AIGA events without being member. its just a matter of paying a couple extra bucks.
- SigDesign0
Plus, AIGA uses a 'popular design job board' (since I can't say what it's called here), which is free anyway...

detroit as state is going to die soon... so get things out of there, asap.
- boobs0
But everybody loves me here
- d_rek0
MikeJ,
Sounds like you might not have any idea what you're talking about.

Detroit will make a comeback....give it time.....lots of time. Detroit was never an amazing design center anyway. Check the Print Regional Annual for proof. Michigan isn't even mentioned...if anything we're put in the category "rest of the midwest." Doesn't mean someone won't ever break out and knock people on their asses though. We have some great teachers here...Mr. Kisor is the man.
- digdre0
put yo hands up for detroit
tududum
- cashface0
Im going to say it "AIGA is for a bunch of douche bags".
- mcLeod0
there are plenty of designers with detroit-area connections that are making an impact. I hope to end up back there one day to possibly try to go to Cranbrook, but not anytime soon.
- marchelo0
Anyone here go to cranbrook or know anything about their 2d or print program?
- Elliot Earls has gone bonkers.mcLeod
- The grad program is self-directed.Mimio

I love Michigan... it will always be my home. Detroit will become great again, but it'll take many years. I still like it there, I mean, there's a lot going on in terms of music and design and art. True, most of the design jobs were auto industry related, but I'm sure that'll change too.
Too many people live in the past in Detroit, because many years ago (1940s i think) it was called the Paris of the midwest. Plus, with Motown Records and all of the great musicians that have come from the area, you can't help but be inspired.
And hey, 95% of eligible voters in Michigan are registered to vote this year... I think that's pretty great.
- here here, well said.d_rek
- it's also called paris of the midwest because it has the same city plan as parisdoesnotexist
