A question for freelancers or small business owners here. Does anyone use Sage to manage the financial accounts or do you use anything else?

my accountant gives me excel spreadsheets to populate, and it has all the formulas / protected fields within it. really quick and simple

My accountant does the same thing.

OK well that's what we do already. I was trying to see whether there was anyway of improving productivity in this area. Just had to file a p11D which meant trawling back through my expenses claims over the last two financial years and calculating how many miles I'd driven for the business.
Do you guys find all this admin for a small business/freelancer just way over the top? For example, my mobile phone is in my name not the business name because it was a cheaper tariff but now I find that business phones that are in your name and not your company name are seen as a personal benefit and taxable.

It is indeed a nightmare. I am sure i don't claim as nearly as much as I should, however, its just so taxing making sure you comply with everything, in the end, its sometimes actually easier not to claim.
The mobile phone is a classic example of something I need to get onto.

just keep a record book of any kind, and save your receipts in an ordered fashion.
