Are MUCH more expensive than they were, even 6 months ago. I'm really, really mad about this.
Has anyone else noticed?

I thought this was going to be a trainspotter thread. I didn’t read it until now because I knew once I got talking about axles and bogies, I’d be here all day.

Don't get me started on this

Trainspotting is OK. Don’t knock it till you’ve sported a heaving great anorak in sub-zero temps looking out for a "pure" Brush Sulzer, Class 47 on shunting duty, ffs.
- Mind you, A class 47 would probably never be on shunting duty.MrOneHundred

so........since this thread took a turn. i always took "trainspotter" to mean the dude staring @ the dj trying to catch what record he's playing.
apparently it comes from people actually watching trains. why do they do this? is it a hobby over there or something?

It has become a generic term for anyone who is interested in the minutiae of any given subject.

a friend of my father collects sound samples from locomotives. he´s got a rack with thousands of tapes. when he´s not on train stations recording arriving trains, he´s actually listening to these tapes. weirdest hobby I´ve ever heard of.
