The politicians like to do *things*. not the right things, not the important things, just *things*. This makes them feel busy and important, and keeps them in the minds of people.
Because as we all very well know, there's really nothing they CAN do about the situation in the above photo. They can't really control people that don't want to be controlled... but those who want more control generally don't give a fuck about the people who really need help and focus on their BS problems (ie: my apartment is close to someone who smokes).
Smokers are treated like second class citizens. Crazy.
I don't even get how someone can be so close as to smell so much smoke that it impedes their everyday life or enjoyment of their condo. Unless you're sharing a bunk bed, that makes little to no sense.

land of the free huh?

You kidding me? Ever lived above smokers? It's more than just 2nd-hand from when they're actually smoking- it's like a permanent stench that never leaves. I liked smoking outside personally

Does it work by a vote? would you have to move out if you lost?

That blows man. Vancity is becoming a boring shithole as time goes by.
You can't do anything here!!!
Bet in 20 years Vancity will be a popular retirement spot.

what's the strata council?
Sounds like a bunch of fucking nazis. I'd just continue smoking because I don't see how such a law could be legal. In fact - I'd double my efforts just to piss off the neighbors.

We have our annual meeting in a couple weeks. the motion has to get a 75% or higher majority of the votes to pass. I wouldn't have to move out but I would have to go out to the street everytime I wanted to have a smoke. All this because it is too big a deal for the people who don't smoke to close their windows when people are smoking on their own patios.
- crybabies... Non-smokers make me sick!!!
BTW...I currently gotta gtfo every time I need a smoke...VectorMasked - smoke make me sick, being obliged to support smoker's smoke make me sickgoygoygoy
- Smoke smells like shit, that being said if you own you should be allowed to stink your own place up.voiceof

your property value very may well increase with families wanting to be somewhere smoke free.
it's the way of the future. they're banning smoking everywhere.
It might even lower the cost of insuring your building cheaper which WOULD lower your maintenance fees, but that probably won't happen.
- It might even make the cost of insuring your building cheaper...
carry on.Gucci - That shouldn't happen.
I'd pay top dollar for a place where i could smoke.VectorMasked - touchematt31

Maybe this is your opportunity to quit?

that is bs though. it's your fucking house. you should be able to put a chinese fuck swing in there if you want to.
fuck. why not ban pets, stereos, children or anything else that makes noise? i don't see where it logically ends.
- Does anyone have a link where I can get a chinese fuck swing?Nematoth

Sell now while you can.

How the hell could you be out-voted from smoking in your own home? That just seems wrong somehow, even though i'm an avid anti-smoker. I love how my clothes do not smell after a night out now. Can't you somehow start a plague of robotic rats in your building?
- i know it seems ridiculous - that's why i was asking if anyone else has ever encountered thismatt31
- matt310
the value may go up or down - hard to say. However, if i put it up for sale and there is a smoker who wants to bid above a non-smoking person on my apartment but they dont because they can't smoke - that would suck.
- mimeartist_com0
Funny how you go out on the balcony to smoke... as you obviously don't like smoke in your own flat, but happy for it to waft up into someone elses. My neighbour smokes and it wafts through are window, and its bloody horrible for someone who doesn't smoke.
He even flicks the ash over our wall.- * fastens bogger on this thread *
so...what up guys?Peter

i smoke in and out of my place not even an issue, i'm smoking right now
- matt310
i wrote a letter to my strata today that makes me sound way more edjumicated then i really am

Surely the issue of a smoker not being willing to buy one of these apartments affects smokers and non-smokers?
Or are these non-smokers really anal non-smokers who would refuse to sell their house to a smoker? I honestly wouldn't put it past them.
- i dunno just kinda of came up in the past couple weeks, i've never had any compliantsmatt31
