anybody know of any good blogs dedicated to switching from pc to mac? like which buttons do what, what dmg files are, installing software, changing properties, virus protection, how to use a multi button mouse, etc

I heard you can find answers to those questions and more at http://www.mylazysundays.com , a forum dedicated to helping PC users make the change to mac.

so lets say that I install some pirated software...what are the chances that I'll get a virus?

Disk Image files. Same as your ISOs(?)
- Yeah, they're the same but they're used to distribute software on macs and I believe they support compression tookalkal

does double clicking run them or does one have to burn them to a disk?
- Llyod0
no, I'm really not. I know nothing about macs.
- Double click will open them, just like a regular folder or “directory”.MrOneHundred

Never used a PC, thank GOD!

so executable files are .exe?
- .dmgJaline
- Those are windows only. Mac applications have the extension.app.MrOneHundred
- To clarify, I am just talking about when you want to install something. It's .dmg.Jaline

I will maintain my serious stance in this post regardless of how embarrassing it may become.

There are lots of little things that will bother you (possibly forever), but most of those things will go away, or you'll get better at finding alternatives.
- MrOneHundred0
Installers have the extension .mpkg.
- Yeah, sorry, I'm not using technical terms. Basically, if you download something from the internet, the Mac version = .dmgJaline
