I've seen this asked in the past - not sure I've ever seen a solution - I've searched google for a while now...
Is it possible to link dynamically created textfields so text overflow carries over from one textfield to the next?

sounds doubtful

I'm pretty sure it can be done with some clever actionscripting. I have a few theories of how to make something like this work.
I could probably figure out a solid solution to make this work. Might make for an interesting experiment. If you're looking to explore this, I'd be happy to work on it with you.

you could note the number of characters that fit in a text field, and that is your base number, call it X.
then, you can access parts of the string you want to break up, almost like an array. For example,
var mystring:String = "this is a string";
var mypartialstring:String = mystring.slice(0,X);0 being the character number you start at, and X being the last character to pull from your string. Then simply populate a text field with that value.
if you have many text fields and a long string, you could set up a for loop to go through your string.
You can also access the number of characters in the string:
var total:Number = mystring.length;
Hope this helps.

gonna bump for the non-weekend crowd... i know i could get ifeltdave's idea working pretty quickly... just wondering if anyone else found or has a diff. way that acts more like a publishing program where one text field overflows 'smartly'... not just based amount of characters in the string...
... i suppose i could make it 'smart' myself and search the characters and tell the string to split right at a space so the string is split at whole words...
... still open to suggestions though. :)... maybe there's a component out there I haven't seen?
