  Wondering if anyone has experience with xBox Live? In particluar, I cannot connect to it. The error I get is something about not assigning IP, or IP in use. I have tried connecting directly to the cable modem, without a router in between.

  Cant seem to find an answer online. Anyone seen this before and know how to fix it?

  try unplugging everything from power outlets , modem, any routers and reboot everything,

  I had something similar, I just waited it out a day and it was fine - I'm pretty sure it was using the same IP as my pc which was connected to the same router, i'd look into that if you haven't yet.

  unhook the modem (if the lights are still on take out the battery). then plug in to the xbox, then plug the modem back in.

  Based on the error you're getting, make sure your router is set up as DHCP so that it can generate a new IP address when it sees your xbox.

  What's your ISP? They might have a record of your MAC address - one device only - so you will have to go thru a DHCP router.

  Lloyd - that actually worked. Had to turn off the modem and back on. Voila. Thanks.
