Actually, according to the guidelines, you can't use landscape elements. That's why chicago's bid logo has been redesigned.

These are terrible, terrible logos goes to show how hard that logo would be to do with out it being cheesy. Current won is fine but not as good as the paralympic logo

Horrible attempts in that first link, landmarks, torches (not allowed anyway) and rings (also not allowed) how woefully generic and also failing to understand the limitations of the brief.

This one would be nice maybe on the side of a large building or perhaps masking some scaffolding - I can also see it's merchandising potential.
