  Is there a decent Flash text script I can buy somewhere? That will let me specify some text in AS and have it fade or animate in in different ways?

  letter by letter or just the whole block of text?

  Tweener is free and good. Gskinner just came out with his own, gTween, and there are plenty of other AS tween engines out there you could use to acheive any effect you want.
