A project manager, calls me 'sweetie' when getting defensive. It's the most patronising thing I've ever experienced. Every time she does it I get that much closer to being fine with hitting a woman.
Why do project managers feel it's ok to patronise designers. I did a specific degree to become a designer, all they did was not know what job to go into, so they got a job 'in media' and ended up talking on the phone to other project managers all day.

1) Politely tell her that "Sweetie" is not an appropriate term for a work colleague.
2) If she gives you any guff, punch her square in the piehole.

I'd call her 'darling' every time she called me 'sweetie'

That's so funny — I had one that used to always say 'darling'. I think they're trying to be endearing or something.
PM's are funny, they're always calling everything 'my'. 'My project,' 'my designer,' 'my developer,' etc.
That said, there are some awesome PMs out there.- +1,000,000 "how's my logo coming on?"
Errr, it's my logo first, then the clients, it's not yours!BaskerviIle - lol @ them calling everything 'my' - so trueset

Next time she calls you Sweetie, ask her if she minds if you call her love or darling.

Meh. It's just a word some people use. I wouldn't get offended, even though it's annoying.

Respond with 'Sugar Tits'.

Glad I work at a pm-free studio. Just us designers here.

is it a defensive thing for sure? is there a genuine sharp shitty tone to it? or is she just one of those girls who calls everyone some kind of pet name and you should probably just go with it. Or just hate fuck her, that's what you both most want after all.

"Why do project managers feel it's ok to patronise designers"
They will as long as you let them. That really goes for anybody in any line of work.
- blackspade0
why dont u tell her it pisses you off. in my experince people rather you were straight up about things they're doing that bother you. Nip it in the butt before it takes up more of your energy. Unless of course she knows what shes doing deliberatly to get you heated
