For nightlife, I loved the club district near Shibuya, although it took a while to find. There is a side street of huge clubs.

...including getting to jam on stage at a bar called Wasted Time in Shibuya.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/676…I also found the Hub (bar) in Shibuya to have a ton of whities. So if you are alone and want to find some hang out buddies, thats a good place.
Harajuku was cool, but probably more fun on Saturdays when more people are dressing up.
I stayed in Shinjuku, which was pretty cool. Lots of bands playing around the train station there and fun to watch.

I was only half kidding about the hostess bar, they want 7000 yen for 100 minutes at most places. Which sounds like a lot of money but it is all you can drink. I don't think they had American kids from Milwaukee in mind when they set the rates, I drank like a 12er of kirin with a little filipino girl and watched strippers, bought her a drink for another 1500 and they let me stay for another half hour. You are going to pay 700 yen for a beer anyway, might as well get a cute filipino girl to pour it in a glass for you. :)
