  You can just search QBN for threads about best Mac apps, etc., and some things should come up.

  I use iWork '08 for my word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation needs, but you can also use Microsoft Office or free Office-esque packages from online.

  What kind of software are you looking for? What do you want to do w/ it?

  Rip DVD's -- MacTheRipper
  Burn DVD's -- Roxio Popcorn (maybe better programs, but that's what I use).

  Of course, Firefox for web browsing. I personally hate Safari.

  The 17 isn't too big... I use mine as my only workstation. Got a big monitor and away we go. The hardest part is finding a decent carrying bag for the 17.
