Safari/Firefox garbled?

When I open some sites in Safari or Firefox it comes up with a bunch of gibberish text instead of legible fonts.
Its nothing to do with text encoding, nothing comes up from virus scans and it only happens on certain sites (others remain perfectly ok).
This happened to a few friends' browsers too.
Anyone know anything about this/this happened to you?
Cheers x

it's using helvetica fractions instead of helvetica, you need to find it and disable it
- na, it's times fractions which causes the problemkingsteven

Try Font Finagler.

you need to disable times fractions, the default font in safari + firefox is times.

- it was times for me, but the problem was only on pages without fonts defined. this is obviously helvetica.kingsteven

you've probably installed the linotype times family recently, same thing happened me a few weeks back.

wikipedia doesn't use times

Can't find anything on fractions...Font Finagler is doing jack...hmmm

For anyone timelining this, found a decent cache inspector that works better than Font Finagler.
Follow acescence's Google link above and download FontNuke, worked pretty good

if you have 500+ fonts open, especially ones which include fractions of phonetic or some other weird set, that's your problem right there. Just keep it below 500 and you should be solid.

get your font management tool to manage system fonts.. then configure from there till you get it right.
