I don't get it. What is the big deal with the politics thread. It's not like we have a religion thread or any other isolated threads. Now I see that QBN has threatened to ban anyone that posts politics outside of the politics thread. What is considered politics. If this is going to be the new policy, can we get an outline of what exactly belongs inside and outside of this thread. I like contributing to this site, but I don't want to be threatened either. Why so many rules recently.

are you putting rules on the ruler?

I'm a bit miffed about my 'peak oil' thread, which predated the 'Politics' thread by whole months, getting deleted when I added a post to it yesterday. Especially as it was a link to an interesting article that countered that my initial post and my own opinion.
I'd write QBN directly and ask why they felt it necessary, but I'm sure they've got better things to do with their time.
Whatever, it's their house - their rules.

Did you miss the giant kerfuffle hissy fit of a few weeks back? I kinda am in favor of the move - although I too am unclear as to what might or might not fit in? Economic issues - are these political? If there is a major disaster/war will all discussion be limited there as well?
Other than that I'm cool with it...

will the politics thread continue after the election, or is this a perma thread?
- kezza_20
Im sure there are other internet forums to vent your spleen about politics. In my experience, when the US election is one the place gets completely dominated by politics. It is annoying.

I like how the Canadian Politics thread exists:

yeah, i started a thread about palin getting her email hacked and someone else tried to turn it into a debate about her using personal email in government, which i couldn't really give a shite about, which resulted in me being warned i would be banned.
guess we just have to be careful.

i remember the same politics thread being designated during the last elections, and it worked very well. it contains the discussion to one thread rather than the million these political situations inevitably spawn. it also prevents regular threads from turning into political ones because of a few comments, as was happening constantly here.
i'm all for it.

this has happened a few times in the past, no? i.e. QBN asking people to post politics in one thread. no big deal.
- ukit0
I'm fine w/ it. Who cares?
- Jaline0

I think its a great idea.. keep all the nonsense in one thread.. isn't this supposed to be a design forum anyway?
One main politics thread keeps all the whining and bitching in one place.. that you can easily ignore.
- That I would understand. Design topics only. but that would get boring after a while.dbloc
- Wait, is there a single "Nonsense" thread now, too???killthefish
- hallelujah0
it gets a tad... overheated... otherwise
