solo holiday

I've had a couple of operations on my back this year, been off work for a bit, had to have weekly check-ups with my surgeon etc, so I haven't had a holiday in a year. After 9 months of medical hell I'm finally back to full health. I now have to use up my allocated vacation days by the end of the year.
I want to take 2 weeks off very soon, but all my friends have already used up theirs so I have no one to go away with, and I've kind missed the summertime.
Has anyone here travelled alone for a a couple of weeks (I'm not talking backpacking for months or anything). Is it weird? can't think where to go or what to do with the time, but I don't want to lose it.Any suggestions welcome!

i would just go somewhere warm and sunny, with good food and do fuck all for two weeks.
but i'm a lazy bastard.

I've done it. Go somewhere where backpackers hangout. They usually go on their own, so it's a good place to be on your Jack. Like you dont want to be in Barbados on your own. Goa or Thailand or Mexico would be good.

Funnily enough I did 10 days or so in America this summer on my own. Admittedly half of that was visiting friends, but the other half was totally on my own. I just jumped into my rental car and drove off across America with no particular place to go.
It was really really great. I loved it. I had a Sat Nav which was invaluable for finding the few motels I stopped in when evening came around.

yeah, I feel like i need a break and some sun to just relax. I'm pretty happy just lounging, reading, sketching etc.
I've just never done that on my own before, seems weird.

There are lots of places here in Colorado that I could think to retreat to solo. Not sure what's available in the UK, but you could always get away into a cabin or something similar. Where you are not completely backpacking, but you are essentially away from everything and can relax.
- This would also make for a cheap vacation opposed to alot of other things.designbot

For what it's worth in your situation I would go here:
Palolem beach (opening scenes of Borne Something)
You can fly to Mumbai for 300 quid return, renct a beach hut at dreamcatchers for 10 quid a night, drink beer and eat curry and hang out wayching the football in bars.
the most chilled place I've ever been, and you'll meet people.
- i just post something about india, this is where I went! + 10000!DaveO

Did two and a half weeks in Vietnam a few years ago, on my own. Was the best trip I ever took, really good for the soul, to be on your own like that. Amazing food, good people, easy to travel and CHEAP AS FUCK!
India is ace too, same applies as the above really. I went to south Goa earlier in the summer. Try and go in November – before christmas before all the families get there....

i'm fucking off for two weeks in november.
going on my own to Morocco - chancing it with a couple of boards and making a bit a photodoc as i go.
i could have found people that wanted to explore morocco - but tbh i just want to get in the water and take photos - not really do the 'lets go see EVERYTHING' thing
sometimes you'll have way more fun on your own (surfing is definetly NOT one of them)
its not weird though - althoguh it does look a bit suss to head to a bar on your own for a drink.. i dont know why..

i would only travel alone... my friends would just hold me back

Antibes area in the South of France.
Sun, sea and loads of boobs went there myself and ended up there the whole summer.

I prefer to go alone so I can do my photography at odd times. this time of year, colorado will have changing aspens but still mild weather in the mountains.
