Does anyone have any figures for turnover of small businesses? I worked in a small web agency 8 years ago and they turned over about £160K per year - there were about 8 members of staff - I thought the figure was pretty low.
Anyone have any figures for now for web/dev agencies with less than a dozen people on the payroll?
What about freelancers (design/dev) - I figured that £60k pa wouldn't be bad - is that accurate or way off what people are getting/expecting.

£1m for a small agency of maybe 20 would be probably more like it.
Do you mean turnover or profit?

That will give you a pretty good idea...
EG: Hyperhappen turned over £1.8 with 16 staff.

Turnover. Yeah I though between 0.5 - 1M would have been better. But I saw the accounts and their projections were £14k per month. I'm sure they're doing better now!
So £1M PA turnover would be about average for small(ish) agency.

Good link kezza_2 thanks

that's only £20,000 per member of staff
don't think that's righti'd say average (between partners, staff) would be about £50k.. some higher up partners would be making 100, some lower end staff would be making 25.. evens out at about 50..
multiply that by how many people in the company, should be about right for payroll..
if the company is smart they aren't paying out nearly as much as they're making.. so for 8 people, the company should be making about 800k

Clearly the more money your making per person he better. Some of the better mid sized agencies would expect 100k per 50k salary.

I know there were a lot of low paid employees there. But I agree £50K per head is probably close to what you'd need to get along.

So, without giving too much away, would most freelancers look to hit £50K PA?
- jonatne0
I doubt I could make $88k a year as freelance..
that in the US though, wages are probably different in UK

50k easy enough to hit.
do 5 days @ 10k a day.take rest of year off.
