mirror doors? get a new mac
- a new iMac is better than that old G5monospaced
- Why? What are mirror doors? It's not even that old why get a new one?babaganush
- Get a new one and donate the quad to me. I only have a mac in my office,.strabley_redux
- Well thats tech for you. They don't do quad cores for imac so how much better/faster will it be?
babaganush - Really think getting an imac is bullshit. Mine is way faster...just a problem that needs fixedbabaganush
- ...particularly when you have things like huge 3d renders and 4 processors calculating. I'll stick with strabley's invaluable helpbabaganush
- ...help hahababaganush

Just got out of a meeting - i still think its a ram issue - do you have apple care with it? Hope I was some help at least.
- Deffinitely mate. Super-appreciative. Late hear so going to try again tomorrow...aaagghhbabaganush

Cheers mate. Good help, no joy though. Wonder if it's the video card like it said? however funny it's just started. Was using it today
?

No. I took one of the Ram cards out and it works but there's a yellow light beside the port. I've taken what I think is the corrisponding paired card (I assume one not working renders the other redundant?). Still no sign of life on the monitor though...

Maybe this will help? http://alexking.org/blog/2006/12…

Yeah. Looks like that

Quad core G5 - can't remember processing speed. Non-Intel. With regards to pairing, I assume so (not massively tech savvy but there are 2 boards in both sets of ram ports so I assume that is paired?)
- strabley_redux0
Also what kind of mac do you have - that will help.
- strabley_redux0
Thats a good yet bad thing - three warning beeps means the ram isn't good in the banks. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT15… Are you pairing the ram?
- babaganush0
Hmmm..looks pretty bad. Took the ram out and replaced. Now every time I start the machine it beeps 3 times - the fans kick off and the power button flashes...

try the apple forums they can be useful (sometimes;-)
- strabley_redux0
It can be linked to the ram - i'm guessing there is a loose connection somewhere or bad ram in general. The ram is literally the memory of computer, if it is flickering on and off your system will lose control of what is it working on and crash - this is also linked to other parts of computer, video too. Do you have an onboard video controller or a separate card? Either way they do need to rely on each other. If you pull them ram and reinstall and still have problems, try starting the computer with just one chip at a time - that would rule out bad ram.

The thing is I have had it started so i don't know that it can be a Ram thing can it? It's simply having problems when it is off (just crashed) and linking to the display

note to self do not put computer into storage :-/
- hahababaganush
- storage hates computers and usually kicks them around when no one is looking.strabley_redux
- strabley_redux0
Take the physical ram out of your computer and reinstall it - since it was being stored, maybe it became unseeded - that would result in crashes and random hardware failure.

if it's under warranty call Apple
if not try this is an old thread - might help
http://discussions.apple.com/thr…- also try unpluggin power cord from back of Mac - sounds silly but I used to have to do this all the time with an old Mac at workalicetheblue
- Tried it. Thanks for the help anywaybabaganush

what mac
- babaganush
My mac has had problems since I took it from storage - my monitor won't display. A couple of days ago it would only start if I held down Command alt P and R. It's been gradually worse. Just crashed and now it won't appear on the monitor even holding down the keys. And the fan sometimes whirs like the runway of a bloody airport. Any ideas?
Thanks
