yes, like Narim said, a byte is 8 bits.

Presumably, this has something to do with data transfer rates, where internet providers have a love for using 'MegaBits', as it makes their services sound really big.
Console cartridge makers used to employ the same trick, saying things like "2 megabit cartridge!" back in the early 90s, which sounded like a shit load, 'til you realised it was about half a floppy disk.
bits tend to use a small b, bytes a capital B -
eg.
megabit = Mb
megabyte = MB

This thread needs a basic explaination of the binary number system right?
bit = 0 or 1
byte = 8 bits = 0 to 255 (1+2+4+8+16+32+64+128 = 255)
