are you looking for a golden section of a line? Not sure what you're asking for.

yes, the grid

Here is a really good article on harmonic ratios (Golden Section). I think he uses the 1:1.414 ratio where there are actually more than a few different valid ratios you can use to draw a grid. I know in the Robert Bringhurst (The Elements of Typographic Style) book he has a whole section to Shaping the Page where he has a nice listing of all the ratios for your review.

rectangles proportioned width/heigth 100% to 61,803399%

yeah that would be using the formula of x / ratio = section.
100 / 1.618 = 61.804...

let me ask this:

I try incorporate the principles of the golden ratio into all of my design and sculpture, using varying proportions, shapes and forms to create aesthetically pleasing work.
Josef Müller-Brockmann also incorporate the the golden ratio into his work:

Yup. *raises hand

with care. Is not the same.
Its the relation between two segments, two measures in geometric proportion.
And very special a/b=(a+b)/a.
Is "phi" the ratio, 1,6181818...the conection between them, in The Modulor (Le Corbusier) worked in it.

I use 1:1.619... it makes my work more edgey.
