inDesign actions are basicly javascripts, you will need some knowledge of regular expressions to do what you're after. This would be a good place to start: http://www.adobe.com/products/in… (scripting resources)

I indent my first line by using the point size of the body copy I'm setting. So if i'm setting 9pt copy, I'll have a 9pt paragraph indent.
As far as wanting to change an uppercase abbreviation - you can do all of that in the find and replace menu. Use the case sensitive function and it'll scan through whatever you want it to. You can change the case to whatever you want too.
