Yelena Osipova, a 82-year-old survivor of the siege of Leningrad as a small child, a well-known activist and baker, who took part in a peaceful anti-war demonstration in St. Petersburg was produced by the police. The banner says, "Son, don't go to war!" "Soldier, drop your weapon and you'll be a real hero! Don't shoot!" Saying anything about it, it is terribly inspiring to see these brave people, ordinary citizens, standing up to violent power.

15 years ago on this day one of the most deadliest terrorist act happened that resulted in death of 334 people, 186 of whom were kids.
Some human rights activists claim that at least 80% of the hostages were killed by indiscriminate Russian fire. According to Felgenhauer, "It was not a hostage rescue operation... but an army operation aimed at wiping out the terrorists." David Satter of the Hudson Institute said the incident "presents a chilling portrait of the Russian leadership and its total disregard for human life".
The event led to security and political repercussions in Russia; most notably, it contributed to a series of federal government reforms consolidating power in the Kremlin.
