wow. This even before the conventions starts.
"Ramsey County authorities conducted raids across Minneapolis and St. Paul Friday and Saturday as a pre-emptive strike against disruptive protests of the Republican National Convention.
Five people were arrested and more than 100 were handcuffed, questioned and released by scores of deputies and police officers, according to police and elected officials familiar with the raids."

Thie last statement in the article:
"Three people were arrested and detained for probable cause conspiracy to commit a riot following a raid at 3240 17th Ave. S. in Minneapolis. ... This is a charge that police use for preventive detention," he said. "It requires that no actual criminal act be committed and borders on criminalizing political advocacy."

oh yeah, you are not going to see anything yet... we have been seeing this go on 100s of times, almost monthly, here in new york since sept. 11th, 2001

I drove to a nature reserve in St. Paul today and on the way I saw 5 vehicles pulled over being searched.
I feel very safe.
I'm thinking I should grab a camera and head down to the convention Monday.
- if you want to be inconspicuous, wear a dress shirt and tie. I kid you not...robotron3k

um, wow. Just wow.
"Blackwater did deploy security personnel to assist New Orleans in wake of Hurricane Katrina and this resulted in great controversy since it was the first time a private military corporation had deployed on US soil."
Yeah, they obviously did a bang-up the first time around.

i have a friend in mpls in the punk scene and all sorts of house shows are getting shut down due to fear of raids since the punks apparently represent "high threats of anarchist activity."
the slope towards a police state is very slight but every now and again something happens to show just how far down you've gone. this is a prime example of using fear to quell dissent and protest in, ironically, a big festival of speeches about freedom and democracy. a+ america.
- indeed. the ball is swiftly rolling down that slight slope. Aided no doubt by fear and ignorance and complacencyflashbender

you can either choose to live in fear of a police state, or live in fear of a terrorist attack. you are never without a choice in the matter.
