Hey. Site: www.nathandavidsmith.co.uk.
Just looking for some constructive comments on the site design/layout... bear in mind that my clientele is local small businesses - an über cool white text, images, and black background site, to them, would look rubbish.
Thanks.
:)PS (I'm fairly ashamed of myself in my previous posts, having managed to convince everyone here that I was a complete amateur at this. I have actually been doing this for years, and I guess I just wasn't pushing myself. Sorry!)

oh, also: I've not put all the work I'm going to put up yet...
- kuzzAAAAM0
first reaction: Fuck yeah!
well done nathan, you've pulled your shit together.

1 thumb up... you can get 2 if you keep refining the type, the margins and everything else that gives visual appeal and balance to it.
- creative-0
Much better.
I would make the type in the right column the same size as the text in the left column. I would also suggest coming up with a better logo for yourself or just have it as type without the star 9and choose a better typeface for it).

How old are you, GORADIO?
- GORADIO0
19...
I have actually been doing both unpaid and paid work for about 5 years, off and on... I know that seems weird. I'm a freaking nerd.

?GORADIO - I think what moamoa is saying is give up but don't give out?ian
- Dudes only 19 though moamoa, got a lot to learn yet.ian
- wait, I see what you're saying. sorry.
that poster actually got me a bit of work...people liked itGORADIO - but its not good. horrible kerning, horrible spacing, horrible colour combination.moamoa
- I'll give you that... The kerning IS terrible :)GORADIO

I like it better than the last but Im not keen on the brown bg (too poo coloure for my liking) or the star-burst header. I think you could give your name a bit of space around it and give it a sense of heirarchy.

thanks

site works much better at doing it job now with the new layout, images sizes etc. Still not really liking the colour scheme and graphic elements but that's a style thing I suppose.
I think moamoa sees lots of faults in your work from a designers perspective which would take all day to go through on a piece by piece basis and I agree, but you're young and learning so in a couple of years if you keep at it you'll get much much better, much much more sensitive to what works where and why (and learn a lot more of the rules that make it easier).
Looks like you've taken on a board a lot of what was said in your last thread regarding the site, and that's a really good sign. good luck, keep it up :)

what kelpie said, thanks
↑yes you are just 19... but you try to act like a designer with experience...
you always try to defend your work, but also with no arguments, like the poster above. I said its not good, you said it took me some time. people like it.
so if people like your stuff... everything is fine
- kelpie0
by the way, I look at the stuff I was doing at your age (I'm 30 now) and some was bordering on OK, other bits were truly horrifically awful and I didn't really start learning the things that would stop me getting flamed to a crisp on here till I was 22/23 really (poor unedjucated type me), one things for sure, I would never have had the guts to put it up here.
um, still don't if I'm honest (though that would be more to do with getting sacked ;)
- GORADIO0
I'm kind of confused by that moamoa.
I have to act like I have experience - I can't get work by advertising myself as an amateur.
- moamoa0
but you don´t have experience, and you are an amateur.
we all were amateurs.
- kuzzAAAAM0
you're being a dick moamoa.

- he's been patient and humble. You want him grovelling for your advice?kuzzAAAAM
- ja sometimes I am a dick, I know. but mostly I try to help, even if its harsemoamoa
- jeveritt0
better, but still lacking craft
definatley ditch the poo brown background

God speed to you, tiger.

Goradio,
I think what moamoa is getting at (and correct me if i'm wrong) but your portfolio not only represents your creative talent but should also be an extension of your personality. If the work is compromising (which the above poster definitely is) then it should not be in your portfolio. Personality wise this says that you're if you're willing to compromise on one thing you might as well compromise on everything.Professionalism is also perceived differently by different niche groups. For example, you're asking for feedback on your site from a design community (QBN) which consists mostly of professionals who are working in the field - most with impressive portfolios of their own I might add. Now the general public - or whomever you consider your 'clients' to be - may look at your site and think everything is just peachy because they are mostly uneducated about the nuances of design. However, the designers and professionals on this forum know otherwise.
Don't get me wrong though, you've got a great start. Sometimes you can chalk up inexperience to pride. The site is much better than the previous iteration though.
- grunttt0
much improved.

I ask you, can it get any better than this?
