I have hundreds of FPO images placed in a book in InDesign. When I go back and update the images with the high res ones, they shrink in InDesign.

The images physical dimensions are the same as the FPOs, just the res is higher. In theory the images shouldn't jump when updated.

    Anything I am overlooking?

Instead of replacing the photos, go to the links palette, select the old link and select "replace link" from the pull down menu. it will not resize the images like placing will.

you mean "update link" or "replace link"? Thats what I am already doing. thats not the issue. its something else.

I'll let you know if I figure it out.

    • I seem to have this problem as well. Hope you figure it out cuz I could not.

If something about the image is different it'll mess the scale up.
I've always found that if it's 1:1 it does a good enough job of just popping in the high res version.

Any chance the pixel dimensions are off slightly?

if replace doesn't work then are you sure that the physical dimensions are the same?

unless maybe did you drag scale the image boxes at some point? not sure if that'd be the issue but can lead to some unpredictable results.

as a test maybe try drawing a new image box and placing in the fpo, then use replace to update to fullsize.

The thing that is strange is that on some of them, I just res'd up the ppi in photoshop, leaving the physical dimensions the same, then updated in InDesign and the image jumps, WTF? What a pain in the ass.

    • huh... you res'd up full size images from the fpo's?horton
