Take this to the "Darwin Award Winners" thread.

Wow, that is seriously fast. I have a feeling that if he survives he'll not regret doing it.

(2 months later in the hospital)
"People are pretty much saying it was the best kite surfing move ever."

what a meat head...... why wouldn't he just let go

That was crazy. His 2 crash landings didn't look that bad though. Hope he is alright even though that was really stupid.

i reckon he would have let go - but you're always harnessed to the kite. with that much wind even a powered down kite would fly

Haha nutter!

really stupid, but I also see how it happened. The guy should have been out there in the first place, but the wind was obviously very strong and unpredictable. He probably got picked up and before he even knew it he was flying through the air. You all say he should have let go but the speed at which it happened makes me think the guy wasn't even done processing his situation before he hit the ground and was out.

Don't tell him he hurrican't do anything, 'cause he has a hurrican-do attitude!
Seriously, though, I hope he's okay – that was kind of painful to watch. It was definitely stupid, but hopefully he'll live to learn from it.

Was a stupid move on his part. Inexperienced kiter + extreme conditions (storm bands from TS/tornado warnings) + squalls = near death lofting. People like him give the sport a bad name. I went out yesterday after the storm moved through and we had a very safe session. Nuking winds and unpredictable conditions. It can be done safely. Just crazy that the TV crew happen to be at that spot setting up. Not many of these cases get caught on camera. Heres another that was caught on camera many years ago. Record height for a kite.
