Yesterday the police started putting up tape all around the patch of land outside the back of my flat while I was cooking lunch. Sirens had been going a little previously (not overly unusual round my bit), but I hadn't seen or heard anything.

This'll explain it then. I have only one reason to live in this city and that might be gone soon. This doesn't help endear the place to me.

we had a murder at the end of our road a couple of years ago and a couple of months back an armed stakeout 2 doors down from my house, apparently one of the girls had a mobile video of her boyfriend dancing with a gun. i *heart* hackney.

I lived in a flat down the road a few years back (very nice flat in a very nice area) where the previous year a pregnant woman had been beheaded by a hitman hired to kill her in order for the father not to shame his family and have to marry the girl. This was in the flat down stairs.
God I love humans
- that's heavy shit.Bluejam

I spent a full hour at the police station 2 days ago (while extremely busy), Kelpie. I was *again* an involuntary witness to a fight gone terribly wrong. Oh the lovely neighbourhood I live in and the miserable government we have here. If you are going to leave, don't go to Holland. This place is stinking on many levels lately.

the development they built when they torched the old flats round here is really nice. my friend bought one of the flats. Civilisation is being pushed further and further into the nasty bits of the city. Skint civilised people have to go to the margins, unfortunately.

Having said that though, where I live (Crystal Palace in London) is right by where that chocolate-bar-litter murder happened, and a recent shooting took place a few roads down.

pfft.. there's been at least 4 murders and a dozen stabbings within 2 km of where I've lived for the past few years.
Why, just a month or so ago, there was some frenzied knife attack where like 5 people got stabbed (non fatally) - within a minute's walk of my front door. Last year, someone was stabbed in the neck, right outside our house.
Shit happens everywhere all the time - but then there are 60-odd million people in this country, so of course bad things happen - regularly too, if you happen to live in a concentrated population.

Fucking hell. Thats mental. I remember a few years ago in my home town there was mental shit going on, all within a few weeks of each other we had:
A woman in her 60's raped and murdered by a group of 16-20 year olds in her house. A man kicked to death over a cigarette by a different gang of 17/18 year olds and a man stabbed a 17 year old (one of the ones involved in the above) outside his house after being harassed for years.this was when I went to college and was trying to convince people that my area was actually alright but had just got a bit of a bad name...
