Hi Guys,
New here, be nice.
Graduated from uni a couple of months ago n been traveling around europe the past three weeks. Now I'm back I'm ready to get stuck in looking for my first job. Scary stuff.
Just wondering everyones opinions/experiences with recruitment agency's? I'v noticed the majority of jobs advertised seem to link back to them and I'v found their websites particularly frustrating.
Any hints n tips first job hunting?
I'm looking for graphic design/artworking in the UK (North West mainly).

is OKthough you'd be better off getting in touch with the design co's

be up front with what work you want from them. don't take any old job they toss your way, or they will know you as "that guy who takes all the crappy assignments"

The only problem with agencies is that they charge 20% (minimum) of the final hiring salary as a fee, so whatever salary you get hired at, it costs the company 120% of that figure.
e.g. $60,000 salary ~ $72,000

be careful with recruiters. Thats my advice

Do not use recruiters. That's my advice.

Am trying to get in contact with the company's themselves, one said they'd see me but with no vacancies. I guess thats gonna be the case with most places.
I heard about the charge most agenCIES make which made me wonder why firms use them. But I suppose with the amount of applications they receive its probably worth it and my guess is an amount of that will come off your prospective salary anyway....?
Got a phone call off agency Macpeople this morning to come in for an interview. Anyone experienced them?
Thanks guys

Dont do it, like 5timuli said. They will charge 20% onto your potential employee, and your tied in.
So only use them craftily to find out who is looking, get the name out of them and tell them your not interested as you have already sent your CV to them...... Then approach the agency direct.
