I've seen this image posted a few times around here. It is completely misleading and fallacious.
Here's why.

Also from the wikipedia page: "Under Clinton, the United States had a projected federal budget surplus for the first time since 1969."
Any idiot can have a projected budget surplus. All that means is that they were *planning* for a particular year to go into the green. The reality is it never happened.

no, not completely misleading. reagan and the bushies are not fiscal conservatives and mccain's tax plan will bring the deficit to spectacular new levels, so it's more right than wrong.

Your chart shows that Clinton/Gore reduced the deficit. Then promptly in 2000 Bush cuts taxes for the wealthy and there went the projected surplus and opened the gates for huge deficit spending.
