Does anyone know of any big agencies going green? Or know of any ways to convert your existent agency to go green or at least start to make the effort of recycling and using eco-friendly light bulbs?! I see so much plastic, aluminum and paper being wasted everyday and want to do something about it in my 400+ person agency.

I've tried and tried here.. I just take my stuff home and throw it in my bin.. they collect curbside at the house...
...oh, last month they did add like 3 'green' lightbulbs...

It's not the most exiting design-led approach but Envirowise may help you with sorting stuff out in the office.

good luck...

@Designbot: Blackle doesn't save any money if you're on an LCD panel.
It's very simple: The white backlight is either all 'on', or all 'off.' The LCDs simple change color to red, green, blue, transparent (white) or opaque (black). It uses the same amount of power whether you're displaying an entire white screen or a black screen.
This is in contrast to a CRT monitor, which actually does turn individual pixels off/on.
- And the only time it's all 'off' is because you've turned the monitor off, or it's asleep, or something similar.

Fuck green lightbulbs, smash one of those and you've got mercury vapour and droplets of mercury on the floor or in the carpet that are damned hard to get rid of. Any efforts to use anything dedicated to clear it up far outweighs the green impact of a whole houseful of these bulbs, if you're only green concern is carbon footprint.
Localised and concentrated pollution is the biggest problem that we can tackle, not having your kids fucking playroom with mercury vapour in it. Cunts.

To be truly "green" consume less shit e.g. (clothing, shoes, cars, houses, paint, hairspray, tools, makeup, whiskey, towels, printers, etc...) Yes changing the light bulbs to CFLs, recycling paper and plastic helps, but stop buying so much stupid shit that cost money and waste energy to make and then to be thrown into a landfill or to be swept into the ocean...

@TheFatBaron:
Though negligible this dude did his own experiment and found Blackle to save energy on his LCD.

and Wiki claims: "...most of the larger (24 inch) monitors did use less power displaying a black screen"

We're a 300+ person agency and have gone completely green.
-Lights in the board rooms and offices that turn off after 5 minutes if it senses no one is in the room.
-Replaced all lightbulbs with energy efficient ones.
-Styrofoam cups have been replaced with eco friendly ones made from recycled paper and cardboard.
-At the bottom of all emails sent around it reads something like "Think twice before printing, save the earth" with a green stamp of approval.
-All office paper at the printers (minus the one used for color specs) is 100% recycled paper.
-Our business cards, leave behinds, envelopes, pretty much everything has been printed on recycled paper and going green has within the past 6 months become a part of our actual brand.
-The temp of our building has been adjusted to run a bit warmer in the summer and a bit cooler in the winter to offset costs. We're encouraged to dress warmer in the winter and lighter in the summer. Energy efficient desk fans can be used if needed but they have to be of a certain kind.
-Every cube has a cardboard recycling bin and every night a crew comes by and collects all recyclables.
-Free sodas and an aluminum recycling bin in the kitchen. It's pretty awesome how green this place is going these past few months.
- what agency are you?!
this is great! thanks so much!Knowledge_j - thats cool.akrokdesign

yeah but isn't the big agencies usually representing the biggest polluters also.

we compost, recycle hardcore. its kind of annoying because they keep pushing green on us more and more. like we have to be the greenest we can be. they were going to take away our trash cans, and that is where the green line was drawn. didnt happen

All agencies are going green.
%90 for the wrong reasons, as "green design" it self has transformed from designing to avoid land fields, to a "product" that adds value against the competition.
