The 2nd Amendment-The Truth 1616 Responses

"Since the US Supreme Court reversed the lower court decision in Washington D.C. regarding the right of the people to own guns, I have had several conversations with people. It appears that folks don't understand what and why we have the 2nd Amendment. So, let me quickly explain what it means to have it.
The 2nd Amendment was set in place because the surfs in England were never allowed to own or possess weapons. The Royalty feared that if they had weapons, they would over throw the Crown.
So, our founding fathers with lots of forethought, added the 2nd Amendment to our Constitution so that (1) we could defend ourselves, (2) defend and protect our families, (3) defend and protect our property, and (4) defend our Constitution by taking back tyrannical government when it became oppressive and there was no other solution available.
Some might argue that retaking our government at the barrel of gun would be tantamount to treason, but that is simply not the case. If our government becomes so tyrannical and unresponsive to the People, we are OBLIGATED by our constitution to take it back and restore it to the will of the founding fathers, who left it in our care.
In recent years, the holders of the Office of the President of the United States have been usurping the Authority of the Constitution and upsetting the checks and balances in place by issuing Executive Orders that usurp the Rights of the People without the Approval of the other two branches of government. This continues to go unchecked and unresolved.
As the string of mega disasters begins, we will see such usurpations actually brought forth and yet the People lack the will or desire to stop it in our legislatures and courts.
The People will not rise up against the government and take it back until every resemblance of FREEDOM is gone and removed. Then and only then, will the PEOPLE rise up and take their country back. At that time, it may be too late"

After that precedent set by the supreme court, watch for your locality to allow hand guns on the street. Then wait until you are in a bar one night and 10 percent of them are packing, no there won't be any problems with that at all.

I'm not sure that the point of this thread was.
The controversial part of the 2nd amendment is whether the right to bear arms means an armed militia or the right of individuals to have guns. The recent ruling specified individuals. The original writing was probably intentionally vague.

There will be no revolution in the US. We can't even elect someone who is not a politician...we're comfortable in our discomfort.

"Then wait until you are in a bar one night and 10 percent of them are packing, no there won't be any problems with that at all."
No idea what you are getting at, but if it's something negative against the right to carry a weapon, look no further than Florida for the facts.
Florida adopted a right-to-carry law in 1987. Between 1987 and 1996, these changes occurred:
Florida United States
homicide rate
-36% -0.4%
firearm homicide rate
-37% +15%
handgun homicide rate
-41% +24%221,443 concealed carry licenses were issued in Florida between October of 1987 and April of 1994. During that time, Florida recorded 18 crimes committed by licensees with firearms.
As of 1998, nationwide, there has been 1 recorded incident in which a permit holder shot someone following a traffic accident. The permit holder was not charged, as the grand jury ruled the shooting was in self defense.
As of 1998, no permit holder has ever shot a police officer. There have been several cases in which a permit holder has protected an officer's life.
I would imagine you're using the same logic when you said all the bars would be closing up shop when the smoking ban went into effect. Which of course, didn't happen.

^ regarding those stats...I think you need to look at them in context of national averages. I believe crime rates / homicide went down nationally as well over those years. I know in Boston the homicide rate dropped dramatically over same time frame.

Seriously who did you used to be before somatica? It is quite obvious that you were here before 2008. I don't get why you people masquerade around here.

It wasn't intentionally vague, in fact it was quite specific. Militia. Regulated. Where's the ambiguity?
And if people are churning out stats, how many crimes in progress have been stopped because Joe Nobody one aisle over had a gun and pulled it out? How many people under the age of 12 have been shot with their parents' unsecured firearm in their own home?
