they are but OSFA must be a fucking neutered gimp. they sent out so many emails and notices about the issue and have so many help pages and info about it you'd have to be some kinda fuckup not to have got the message. OSFA, i'd say 'all due respect' but seriously, i think you get what you got brother.

MT DV has been good for me... MT Grid not so much...

they have been sending emails regarding this for a few weeks if not over a month now.. also as mentioned they gave you the option to change your passwords manually to not have to wake up today to see everything was down..
- bulletfactory0
I received a number of emails from them warning about the switch. They also gave a window of time that you could change the passwords yourself.
They claimed the pass changes would be automatic, and not interrupt service If you're using Wordpress, or some of the popular CMS'.
Hope you get it worked out quickly!!

OSFA - No idea... I know a few weeks ago they were issuing messages saying they were going to change passes on all databases for certain customers/services. I got several messages outlining when this was going to happen... but if this is recent i haven't heard anything about it. Maybe contact them? Sorry man =\
- w_w0
never heard of that happening, sorry OSFA
- OSFA0
WTF just happened? They changed all my passwords? Now my site, blog, etc are all down... crap!!!

:( All of my server is down again:
I hope this turns out to be good: http://www.mediatemple.net/labs/…

It is a clustered system. This means the MySQL db is not on the same machine as the apache web server. They host web sites on one set of boxes and all of the mySQL for those web sites on another set of boxes.
Others are doing it. http://www.servage.net/
Cheaper for them, It makes for a slower db connection.

mg33, i think the issue is that their grid service IS something different than what everyone else i doing and they are having issues getting it working reliably, as evidenced by the fact that my dv is rock solid and never goes down, my old ss server is rock solid and never goes down, but my grid account is always down. if it was just like everything else i doubt it would be so unreliable.

I say this all the time and I'll say it again:
Grid Service is probably just some hype terminology that in reality isn't anything different in a technical sense than any other large-scale web host out there. Please think about it: Is one guy on the block really going to have something totally different than anyone else in that industry? No. They're all going to do what is a best-practice and works best for their clients. I'd bet that there are tons of other hosting environments doing the exact same thing, they're just not putting out neat terminology and whatnot about what it is that makes their sites and their hosting environment work.
I have nothing personally against MediaTemple, never used then and also never considered them, but time and time again when they come up around here I can't help but remind any of you that use them that you are paying an insane amount of $$ per month for something you probably utilize 10% capability of in comparison to dozens and dozens of equally reputable, cheaper hosts out there.
