What is it like there? Cheap living? Good jobs? Just had a friend come back from there and she is convienced it is the best city in the states.
- bulletfactory0
she wasn't there in the winter then.

really great city, minus the weather. either freezing your knackers off or sweating through your clothes. there might be a couple weeks here and there where you're actually comfortable being outside.
- nicole_marie0

There are a lot of NTers from Chicago, or who currently live in Chicago actually. I like Chicago a lot, but I think I was only there once.
I always wanted to do the Ferris Bueller tour, but I've never gotten anyone to ever even consider doing it with me.

Besides the brutal winters probably the nicest city in the U.S. I have lived on the east coast my whole life and been to every major city at least three times. Chicago offers: good food, architecture, design, advertising firms, museums, art, music, plenty of women if you are a guy and straight, and is a very walkable city.
- Well that sucks because I'm gay and in a wheelchair :(rson

Since I have been here I have loved it and hated it. There is always something fun going on but make sure you live in a good neighborhood in the culture that you would enjoy. DON'T move by Wrigleyville, its full of drunk douche-bags. And just to warn you I have noticed that there are way more guys in this city then women.
- Isn't that seemingly everywhere though, haha? Chicago girls love their Cubbies though.flavorful
- I hate baseball... I think I am in the wrong city.nicole_marie
- Alrite well ... I hate you now.
Congratulations.flavorful - Okay that is only half sarcastic, haha.flavorful

Shameless self promo for my band The Atlantic Divide, this Thursday night. Like The Cure? Like The Catherine Wheel, Swervedriver, Sunny Day Real Estate? We're often compared to those bands a bit, so have a listen: http://www.theatlanticdivide.com…
- WOW that was shameless. good jobrson

Also, in terms of Chicago - I've lived here for nearly 7 years. I'd have to say the following:
Highest sales tax in the United States: 10.25%
Great city to live in if you don't have a car, but if you DO live in the right part of town. The bus + El or bus + lots of walking, or bus + El + lots of walking sucks.
People are very friendly here, very open minded.
The lake can be fun, it's like we have an ocean nearby (without deep sea fishing or great local fresh seafood, mind you.)
Lots of beautiful people here.
Suburban people and tourists can be annoying (except Kona). They know little of common social procedure like how to board subways, where to stand on escalators, or how to walk down the sidewalk in a straight line.
The city is kind dirty.
Our city government is about as corrupt as it gets. Once you live here for at least a year and pay attention to news stories you'll understand.
We have Lollapalooza and no one else does.
Great museums. Great shopping, cept for the sales tax part.
Pretty much ever major concert or touring band comes through Chicago.
There's quite a bit of really bad crime in the wrong parts of town. You will want to do your research on where to live.
It's a good city for riding bicycles. The mayor is a strong proponent of this being a bike safe city.
There is GREAT food here.
There are enough bars in the city of Chicago that you could go to a different one every single night of the year and never, ever go to the same one twice.

Winter is rough, but it makes you love the summer. It makes you proud to have made it through it. And then when summer is over you'll regret not getting outside enough and spending afternoons laying around at the beach or in parks staring at the sky.

Oh wait I have to say... I don't know what anyone else thinks, but to me, the Chicago suburbs are horrible...I would not want to live there or commute to the city for work...depressing
- if you are going to live in the suburbs, there is no point in living in chicago.mrdobolina
- LISTEN to him... He doesn't even live in this state and knows what's up. ;)mg33

When you search for your apartment, find a place near an El stop or near several buses. Do not, for the love of god, live in the suburbs.
I love Chicago, fantastic city.

not cheap living at all, pretty good job market, crappy weather usually.
i'd prefer NY, personally. oh well.
- Yeah talk about hard to get a job and expensive... Or how about more rain fall than Seattle and colder than nearly any other city in the winter...lifterBARON
- .. in the winter...NY is not an easy city to get over in.lifterBARON
