My biggest complaint—and I apologize if this has been discussed ad nauseum already—was that there didn't seem to be any commitment to the "theme." Specifically, they hinted at religious undertones, but didn't really follow through with them in a meaningful way.
They had the creator (Flynn senior), or God, and the arrival of his son (Sam Flynn) to provide salvation. This along with lines like, "The awe was...palpable," and a character literally dropping to his knees in prayer, I was really hoping for a mind-blowing ending, but then they got all into digital DNA and the birth of life. This was a quick Darwinian turn. Maybe that was the point from the beginning.
That being said, it's important to compare the storyline from TRON with TR2N. The original had a theme that at the time was revolutionary: virtual reality and living inside a machine. This was back when computers and computer games were in their infancy. The very idea and they way they built upon it were totally incredible. The new movie, on the underhand, is using old ideas within a used concept and the real chance they had at adding something new was simply glanced over.
- i think both movies reflected our relationship with technology at the time of their creationscarabin

I wish I hadn't seen it in 3D.
Those glasses fuck everything up. Plus they're more money.

I quite liked the bit with the lights.

I saw it last week.
At least the music was good.

Saw it today with my 4 year old.
I thought it was pretty slick, well done and a nice piece of escapism.
I felt the 3d was shitty though or maybe it was the screen i saw it on. I'm use to crisp HD not blurry projected images, maybe it was the cinema, maybe i should have seen it in imax or digital 3D or something.
Next I thought young Bridges wasn't quite there, they should have used the technology that they're using for LA Noire. My son thought it was a "Space Movie"

yeah, saw this the other night. going into it, i could care less of how it fared as i'd never seen the first one - i just wanted a good light cycle scene since this was my first 3d movie experience, and on that end it delivered.
it was cheesy, but somehow anything more serious wouldn't have coupled well with the over-the-top animated characters. clue's rendered look was bothersome to me as its level of realism was only on par with that ten year old final fantasy spirits within bomb, but whatever, it was easy to look past.
the music from daft punk layered over the amazing visuals was perfect. this was the film they were born to score.
for the kind of movie you know going in you'll be leaving your brain at the door for, this was worth the price of admission for me.
- First I was like, he looks too plastic. Toward the end i was like, he looks less plastic...neandersthal

Just got back from seeing this mofo. I enjoyed it. Exposition was retarded in places, and as inteliboy pointed out a whole lot of wtf moments and cheese, but whatever... still worth it.

after all the nerd blogs and places like this ripping it to shreds---
ended up loving this damn film. from the opening, on the motorbike through the city with the epic arpegiating synth score right to the ending -- so so good. full of cheese and wtf moments, but didn't care. miles ahead then the other trash hollywood spews out. fuck. the. haters.

saw it IMAX 3D. Pretty good, pretty predictable. Enjoyed the visuals.

i'd love to see what all these haters think about the original, which is nothing but a blatant alice in wonderland rip. why is nobody shitting on that?
this sequel is WORLDS fucking better
- it had way less depth, less interesting score, shallower , more one-dimensional characters...scarabin
- the creators even said in an interview it was basically a rip, it was the only way they could sell itscarabin
- it wasn't one dimensional, just look at those light cycles and tanks :)timeless
- I think the original is regarded more for retro-sci fi kitsch value than anything else:)abettertomorrow

I pretty much liked it overall... The original tron had a more gladiator theme this one had the techno ninja vibe going on in this one. Especially with all the synchronized acrobatics.
