Going there for New Years.
Most probably at Best Western (ew) near Times Square and taking American (ew) again...

that should be rather insane. i've never spent new years there. take some good photos.

and stay away from Times Square unless you like not being able to pee or poop for an entire day

yeah...it might be one of those things have to do eventually.....but standing in that cage all day like cattle to whoop it up for 30 minutes when midnight mercifully arrives and your bladder explodes always seemed like a HORRIBLE idea

Sans booze.

Have you been to Manhattan before?

your better of trying to find a sublet on Craigslist and hangin downtown. Times Square is a pain in the ass!

Times Square on NYE is so overrated.

- I've worked there the last 3 years on NYE.Stecchino
- I'm sure it was fun when they allowed liquor but now you're just standing around for hours with nothing to do until the countdown.Stecchino
- countdown. Yeah, there are bands playing but they're usually crappy. Something for "everyone"Stecchino

I have a friend that used to work at blue smoke or something like that (can't remember the name of the restaurant) - The staff was trying to ask off for New Year's, but it was quickly brought to their attention that they, in fact, were about the only people freely allowed to use the restrooms whenever they pleased. So i believe they all just worked and drank and pee'd all evening.

coming here for NYE and wanting to go to times sq is like asking someone to punch you in the balls.
i'd totally do couch surfing . com or stay at whitehouse on bowery and spend what you save on booze and a really expensive dinner.

MLP is 100% correct in thinking, I couldn't agree more. Just think about it; the $500 or more your gonna spend on hotel could get you a fucking awesome steak and quite a bit of Stella! Right on MLP

I did Times Square celebrations back to back to back in the late 90s. We had fun even with the crowds, no bathrooms, overpriced everything, and all. This was pre Sept 11 though and the police weren't as.....present.
Do what you want, but have an alternative plan - like staying downtown.

i've lived in new york for 26 years and i've never gone to times square for new years.
I may have set foot there maybe 20 times in my life. it is an awful tourist trap of people walking with their eyes in the sky 1mph and bumping into you.
there are so many better places to go - east village, LES, west village, brooklyn is alive as ever. seek some options :)

you can stay on my couch for $100 a night
