i have a macbook pro thats fairly new (february 08) with all the latest updates
im not sure when this issue popped up because a few wks back I was still able to read off these discs

    my problem is the following
when i insert a dvd+r (which as i said used to work fine) it continues to try to read it and eventually ejects it

    audio cds work fine
    cd+r works fine
    regular dvds (movies) work fine

    anybody ever heard of this?
    and/or know of possible solutions?

Anytime i've had trouble reading DVD+R discs (which is almost all the time), i've put it i a stand-alone duplicator and duped it onto a DVD-R. i'm guessing you don't have that equipment

Did you make the DVD+R on your machine? Did someone give these to you to open?

I had that problem once with a powerbook, it was a bad drive. if you have applecare take it in and get it swapped out.

My MBP forgot it could burn DVD DualLayer (according to System Profiler), but then later it remembered...

Mine is fucked, but that's due to an influx of Chilean Shiraz.

If the warranty is done, get yourself a little screwdriver and a replacement drive and swap it out.
