Meet 'Knol', http://knol.google.com/
Google's response to Wikipedia, but with named authors, rather than complete anonymity.

(ie. You'll need to sign up for an account if you want to edit anything)
- Spookytim0
That's going to kill Wikipedia.
- peterorpete0
reckon? knoling something dont have the same ring
- Spookytim0
True, and also, its less democratic... once you've made a knol about WW2 Spitfire engines nobody can correct you if what you've said is incorrect.
Wikipedia is going to kill this.
: )

I will kill them both *brandishes knife*

It'll be interesting to see how Google manages its search responses over the next year or so, given how much they've relied on Wikipedia over the past couple of years to bulk out their results with something other than blog-spam and bot-mined crap.
(I'm not really sure what 'bot-mined crap' is, I got carried away with pulp sci fi vernacular there)
- Spookytim0
I wonder if the Knolites will go on covert disinformation spreading missions over at Wikipedia. This could get nasty.
Trolls should go mercenary. There's probably money in online disruption.
- Spookytim0
If I went bot-mining and found crap, I'd be really pissed off.

You can still edit entries - you just need to sign-in with somethinglike a valid identity first. So, if you've got something genuine to add, I don't see why the sign-up process would offend you.
Hold on.. is that a variant of 'if you've got nothing to hide, you shouldn't mind the surveillance cameras, identity cards, drug tests, phone-tapping and anal probing meted out by your friendly local governing hegemony'?
- HAHAHA, but good point, I didn't realsie it was still open to peurile abuse ERRR I MEAN... Corrections.Spookytim

Knol isn't all that great in my opinion - it all seems to be medical essays and people's scientific point of view - I couldn't find anything on 'web design', 'html', 'mySQL' or any popular web apps, 'word press', 'blogger', 'blogging', or anything =(
At least with something like IMDB I can look up a movie, and then get more information by looking it up on Wikipedia - but nothing for 'Batman' on Knol...
Anybody want to know about Syphilis, its featured on their home page: http://knol.google.com/k/hunter-…
- Spookytim0
If they had a bookmark facility like QBN's so that people can create personalised indexes of knol pages (Google please pay attention here) they should call it a wedge.
A Knol wedge.
I am a fucking Genius of sorts.

I found an article about Oracle through the Twitter Search
http://search.twitter.com/search…
http://knol.google.com/k/aman-sh…
But when I search Knol for 'oracle' or 'Oracle Certification' nothing shows up - I thought Google runs this thing, can't they even get it searching right?- You overlooked my genius.
Just thought you should know.Spookytim
- You overlooked my genius.

this will become much, much stronger once they fold Digg into it... once they finalize that deal.
also, not really convinced in any way that this will "kill Wikipedia"- google is *extremely* supportive of the organization and actually fosters development in it's alogorithms for the site.

no thanks

Sounds like a name pablo would come up with.
