I shoot alot of street photos and some portraits on my 20d.
Mainly using my 24mm 1.4 L series.
I have a 50mm 1.4usm both canon lenses.someone wants to buy my 50mm off me and i've rarely ever used it.
anyone know what the benefits the 50mm might have ? im trying to decide if i hold onto it incase i need it...
someone mentioned it maybe better for portraits. anyone using the same lenses ?

the 50mm is an awesome lens - fast, great in low light. don't sell it! it has a nice short depth of field due to its large aperture and therefore creates beautiful focus and bokeh.

50mm is a better portrait lens. wide angle lens tend to stretch the face out and make the nose look bigger than it is.
if you don't use the 50mm sell. put the money towards something else. maybe a L series zoom. photography is too expensive to be a collector

how much you wan for the 50mm if you do sell it?
- i told the other dude 325$ he wants me to come down to 300 i think thats too cheap.traut

50mm for portraits definitely, 24mm will make a persons face look bad perspective wise. f/1.4 is probably the best you will get if you dont want to splurge for the 1.2L (and that weight).

50mm is the definitive street portraiture lens. It has the best ratio of lens diameter to film/sensor so doesn't pull round at the edges. It is also the lens that best records what the human eye sees in terms of its field of vision. Indispensible.

the 50/1.4 on my canon 30d is my favorite lens ever. put it on your camera for a week and you'll love it. with the 20d's 1.6x factor it's like an 80/1.4 but it's still rad.
and i think i bought mine at bh for 300...

I have a 580EX II to either sell or trade for a Nikon SB800/900....

I recon the 85mm f1.8 is better for portraits on a crop body but thats just splitting hairs. I'm going FF this week so will be shopping for a 135mm f2 for portraits (oh yeah!)
Why sell the nifty fifty? They only cost like 450 bucks new, so you are only going to get like 300 max for it. Thats not going to buy much so why not just keep it? There is no lens better for shooting chicks in clubs except for maybe the 50mm f1.2.
- Sorry, I meant just save more money and keep the 50.slappy
