I just installed Norton 360, and now outlook, gtalk, trillian and firefox won't work. I tried launching Norton, and nothing happens....

Kasperky is really good, and lightweight.

PcCillin is also good and lightweight. Stay away from Mcafee and Norton. They are major resource hogs. Also unless you feel you absolutely need one, stay away from the "Internet Security" packages.

I just wasted over 8 hours of my life with Norton only ending up uninstalling it.

Avira is pretty lightweight on the system.

i use AVG and have no issues. they just released 8.0

also use superanti-spyware, spybot: search and destroy, and ad-aware.

all of those are free and have nominal fees to upgrade to more features

    • I use it too and its very good! Stay away from NortonPSYKHO1/2
yeh i use it too, stay away from norton if you actually want to use your machine

AVIRA looks quite promising via the av-comparatives report.

^Zone Alarm can lead to some major issues unless you know how to configure it, seen it cause major issues for people without much experience. Also AVG is decent for a free antivirus software, but can't compete with the big boys imo.

Not to be a hater, just my opinion.

I'll second AdAware - it's slightly hyperactive sometimes but essential nonetheless.

Just went to Staples and they let me exchange Norton for Kaspersky. Hopefully it's a lot faster.
