'How to Film the Impossible'
This doc makes some classic visual FX films (StarWars, 2001 etc) look completely lame while still giving a good break down on the various techniques used back in the day. Funny and interesting.

as a kid i read a lot about all those special effects movies and how things are made. making-ofs were not invented yet, we had no video and i even was not allowed to watch the actual films at the cinema. probably because i was media-input-wise unladen all the information got burned into my brain forever. today i profit from the input through those books. i'm actually using some of these techniques right now. i mean now - right before and after typing this here :)

it's interesting how some of the techniques have been translated into the digital realm...one that I remember is the 'object mask' film print, its basically the alpha channel now
