So... wife is picking out the hotel and I'm worried because she's basing it on price. I don't want to get stuck in ghetto Toronto if I can help it. Anyone have any thoughts on nice hotels in downtown Toronto (or near interesting parts of town... like shopping)?
All help appreciated.

If you're looking for a great Bed & Breakfast, go to http://www.baldwininn.com/
It's on a street with nice little restaurants and a couple of blocks from Main Street with all the sneaker shops and the like.

This one is right beside the Drake (mentioned above and a little cheaper - http://www.gladstonehotel.com/- Also in the Queen West area which has shopping, nightlife etc.lherb

Depends on your price range. There are lots of hotels in the downtown area.
http://www.starwoodhotels.com/sh… is pretty much right in the middle of it all.If you have the cash

Both are awesome hotels but I unfortunately already tried both and nothing is available for the days (and amount of guests {4adults, 1child}) we're going. :(
- The Drake & Gladestone, that is...rainman
- The Drake and Gladstone are more trendy than anything else. Can't account for their hotel services thoughscrap_paper

Regent Park has some fabulous hotels. Definitely check out that area.

Do you guys have any suggestions on other parts of Toronto? Are there any arts districts with hotels close by... or cool shopping strips? Staying downtown gets kinda pricey when you're looking to sleep 4+

I used to live a block from the Gladstone and a little further from the Drake...and wow...what a difference a decade or two will make...those places (back in teh early 90's) were HUGE for crack and hookers etc...super nasty...now, it's all the rave with the young'ns...gotta love how a neighbourhood can repair itself....parkdale ...gotta love it.... :)
anyone here know of www.yougrowgirl.com ? lived next door to her and her hubby for awhile...i think they still live in that apt. one of the best landlords and nicest apts. in parkdale ....

Just pick a budget hotel around the yonge and dundas area; puts you in the middle of things.

The only hotel I ever stayed in here was the Travelodge on King near Bathurst. I locked myself out of my apartment, which I didn't discover until 2 in the morning, and nobody was answering their phones so I crashed there. Paid $100 for 8 hours sleep, but the room had 2 queen size beds.
- I was gonna mention this one, not bad for the price. Still near Queen west.lherb

I stayed at Centennial College a few times. Cheap and free breakfast. Smaller rooms, but larger kitchen area (think college residence) but it was good enough for us. If you want a really big area say you'd like a wheelchair accessible one (this includes hotels). Hopefully someone who actually has a wheelchair doesn't need it or doesn't come by...
