just the got the indirect sit down chat from boss man about posting company work up on design forums / blogs after the work has gone live...
- ********0
something about self - censorship
- MrDaro0
so your boss is against promoting his company's work?
- ismith0
Such as QBN?
- acescence0
does not compute

well i wouldn't necessarily say that... but it does get complicated when you are digital production firm, and an agency is outsourcing work to us.... and then i post up something like, check out this cool site we made....
i guess making websites is more bureaucratic than it once was
- ********0
my only issue is that the site was already live... as long as i don't say something like fuck this other big agency... blah blah blah....
sometimes i wish building webs for the internets was just more simple aka. no office politics, egos, yadadydada... only in a dream world
- its probally because of google searches********
- egos? from a web designer?
Meeklo

It probably has nothing to do whether or not your boss is proud of the work. Clients and contractors can be extremely sensitive to what is posted outside of the live or campaign environment, as well as who claims creative 'ownership.' Sometimes this is contractual, sometimes, it's purely client's preference.
You're actually really lucky that it was a pseudo casual 'sit down.' I've seen crazy shit go down with contractors and clients over far less. Be careful what you post and where.

if you're a contractor, it should be in your contract. if you're salaried, it should be in the employee handbook. you should have a sit-down with the boss and ask him why he dropped the ball on this one.

actually, i once worked for a studio who was sub-contracted to do work for one of the main cosmetics company. that company thought X was doing the work but we really were, and it was on the d/l...so if it's something like that you're really supposed to be more discreet.

maybe i'll re-read the employee handbook or something, but to my knowledge, we did get partial credit ( split between a big agency and us ) for the site in question... as far as the google searches... well that probably does have a lot to do with it, however... they eventually just paid for the SEO ( paid google ads ), but didn't do it for a while.... which makes me wonder. If you spend a ton of money on a campaign including banner ads, why wait like 2 months for SEO? seriously
