Wondering which version of Flash most people are targeting these days? I have a client who is saying 6/7. Which version do most people build for? If less than v9 how do people stand with AS3 is that being "ignored" until more people build for v9 or has everyone just adopted v9 and AS3 without worrying about who has what version of flash installed.
Thanks.

v8 is about as high as we are allowed to build for at the monent. although for some things we are still as low as v6.

we design for V9 now

v9 for sites, look at expressInstall (swfObject) for "fast pain-free fp upgrades"

Seriously switch to 9 asap. The more people that do it... the more likely people will just update...
It's such a simple update for the user to make.
Thinking about it though... it's not such an easy update for corporations with a network of 3000+ computers :)

clients tell me what version to use. not the other way around.
you should see the size of the spec documents i have to deal with.

How do the adobe stats work exactly? 98.5% version7 98.1% version8 96.5% version9 That's almost 300%.
I don't understand their stats.
I think what I would want would be a percentage break down based on 100% internet users. In that 10% of these have v9 20% ver8 65% have ver7 and the rest don't have flash.
Anyone have that kind of data?- latest versions are compatible
backwards. 98.5% version7 shows how many can view v7, this inlcudes vers 8 and 9 etc
drgs - it means flash 6 or bettermimeartist
- understood - that makes more sense nowjohnnnnyh
- latest versions are compatible

it would be good to have a more up to date schema of who has the very latest player... those stats are very old now (over 3 months)

I'd say at least 8, 9 if you're doing any AS3-specific stuff. The speed benefits of 9 really only apply when you're coding in AS3 generally. Also, take into consideration your audience. Older folks, kids (school computers), tech-savvy people?

I don't know anything about Flash. I have a question. Are different versions of Flash like different versions of Photoshop or other software? (besides the issue of videos not playing in browsers when you have an earlier version). As in, it's not difficult to code in/for each version, as long as you know the basics (?) What's the reasoning behind viewers/users updating all the time? Speed?
Thanks.

at least 9,0,28,0
but banners amazingly 8 since about start of this year.
using express install you don't need to do your own stuff lower than this. as long as you have a html accessible version for retards and oldies anyways there's no harm in pushing the technology

check out the flash 10 player beta , I reckon there's a pretty impressive performance increase even when u check out older stuff made in flash 8. It's got gpu rendering amongst other sweetness !!!

9 is a must for me now. If I can't use AS3, I pass on the project. I think the YouTube point is an excellent one. If it's good enough for google why not a client's site.
