  I'd say that an egregious lack of understanding/interest in politics, from the local level up to the international stage, is a growing problem here too. We seem to have gotten pretty complacent about it.

  Actually the main problem I have with the US is their complete mistrust of foreigners, even if they're given permanent residency. I've been here for nearly two years now and still have no credit history, despite paying rent, having two US credit cards (with very low limits) and paying bills and utilities every single month.
