Hey all,
I am a fine artist who is becoming more envolved with all things internet. You seem like a creative bunch so I'm thinking that some one would be kind enough to help. How do I save an MS Word 2007 document in the XP format? Don't know what I'm doing. Also where can I go to get the XP, MS Office 2003 or Word 2003 software, or codes for free? Any clues? I had a hard drive crash and it had to be replaced. Don't and can't afford more$$$$. Thanks

I'm trying to write a proposal for a voluntary program where people in hospitals and nursing homes have acess to the internet. You would not believe how bad the elderly vetrans have it. Many die alone without family. My dad was in the ICU for six months before he died and he had children that were never able to say good-bye. I was using the little flash drives and I could not go seamlessly from computer to computer. You may think I sound shady but I'm not at all.

I think we need a little more info. Why do you want to downlevel the files? Do you really need to? .doc should be .doc and you should be able to choose different formats from the save as type list in the save dialog. Also, if you have 2007 why do you need every other version of word as well? I have a feeling you might be overthinking whatever it is you're trying to do. If you get desparate I've seen back levels of MS office at Salvation Army.

I don't think its an issue of editing based on the comment to my post above. I'd be more interested to get a beginning to end account of what task bluetape is trying to accomplish and what the symptoms are of the problem he needs to solve.

You need to go to 'save as' and save it down to a version that you know people will have... is this what you mean?

Are you still here?

OFFICE ICON >> SAVE AS >> WORD 97-2003 DOCUMENT.
That's it, now anyone with word 97-2003 can open it. Be aware some features you can do in 2007 won't look right saved in 97-2003 so save the doc first in this format then it will tell you when a feature is not compatible.

ps. Only worry about Word versions, using XP or Vista has got nothing to do with it.

The only problem you would have now is if someone was still running Office 95 or something - in which case it's them that's out of date.
