Niamh Farrell of Ham Sandwich didn't know she was pregnant until she went into labour two weeks ago. She tells Sinead Gleeson a rock'n'roll tale to beat them all.

ALL bands have their crazy stories. From tales of mid-gig electrocution to naked hotel streaking, they are the kind of chronicles we expect - heck, demand - of musicians. Niamh Farrell of Irish band Ham Sandwich now has her own classic. Her "remember-the-time-I-went-to-hos… story takes some beating. Twenty-five-year-old Farrell became a mother on June 8th but had absolutely no idea she was pregnant until going to hospital complaining of cramps

I have a friend this happened to. Sometimes the baby gets lodged up a bit and doesn't really show, haha.

    It's crazy.

    • Well the classic friend of a friend. Weird part was this girl modeled and continued to throughout the entire time.flavorful

Never underestimate the power of denial.

My friend's cousin, while at nine months preggers, stared her mom and anyone else in the face and denied being pregnant. She had the kid, gave it to her own parents who now raise the child the child as their own. She regard the child as a sibling basically and there is never ever any mention of the child as her own. That was ten years ago.

I know a girl that this happened to. She found out she was pregnant 8 months in. She's a bright intelligent girl (who likes to party) and had no idea. She had put on a little weight but otherwise her body hadn't changed much. She went into labour same night as my wife and they both gave birth hours apart. Her kid's fine as well despite her unabated (at the time) party lifestyle.

    • Yea, weird and thankful how that works out aye? I mean I wouldn't want anyone to knowingly do it while ...flavorful1/2
pregnant but I was real relieved to hear there weren't any complications myself as a result of. Weird thing science.flavorful2/2

I really don't believe the whole not knowing you're pregnant shit. Hormones have to flex, the baby will move (right?). I think harlequino had it right with the denial shit.
