I am not sure what you are researching in the form of signage or directional (way–finding) systems. But if you want to buy a book I strongly suggest this one.

I did my entire thesis on way–finding practices and developed a system for an airport. The book itself is a great resource and is an awesome jump point to other resources. ( They are all listed in the back.)
