I have a spare G5 tower laying around my place - it's cheese grater face is just staring at me, asking, "why won't you use me - you did spend $2400 on me three years ago!" It's complicated.

Anyways, just curious as to what some of you use old Macs for - space heater? File server? Media server? Uhh, display? I was originally thinking of selling the G5 off, but I feel like it should be good for.... something.

I have an old G5 too.. would use it as a fileserver/backup machine, but the fan always runs unless I sleep it (which I don't want to do), so too noisy in a small flat.... So will probably get an iMac or keep using Powerbook with FW drives and a network drive hung off it...

    • Yeah. I have concrete floors - expecting annoyance shortly.

I'm currently using my old 7 year old G4 as a shelf for my cable modem and headphones to rest on.

You could install Xubuntu or another light weight Linux OS on old macs or maybe try something like this.
