Detroit Underground returns for their much anticipated ninth edition of their now legendary compilation series. Featuring some of the label's biggest artists, namely Funkstorung, Richard Devine and Jimmy Edgar, the ninth edition sees the label return to its more experimental roots after a successful, albeit brief foray into a more hip-hop and club-oriented music in the series' seventh and eighth editions. While number nine, still puts you on the dance-floor, the release's forays into IDM, Acid and Experimental sounds recall earlier DU records and further Detroit Underground's reputation as a label that is not afraid to take chances.

The A-Side features an unreleased remix of Funkstorung's- Punk Motherfucker, originally track released on the duo's The Return to Acid Planet (Studio !K7), which here gets an all out reworking by Richard Devine, including a new dip into the acid bath, with extra 303 and more of Devine's sonic experimentation. It also features three new lock grooves and another Devine original in Krake, a more traditional four to the floor hard techno track, put through the paces by the critically acclaimed Atlanta based producer.

If that weren't enough Side B, starring Detroit native and Devine's WarpRecords label mate Jimmy Edgar return to the DU roster with two brand new tracks Slaphard and I Wanna Do It, both which feature Edgar at his best, setting up complex dance polyrhythms over the chopped up, funk-infused
synth-lines which have come to define his sound. The latter track (I Wanna Do It) also sees Edgar pay at the very least lip service to classic Detroit techno strings and dub-reggae and in doing so, Edgar reveals himself as the true multi-talent that he is, while providing a well-rounded portrait of his compositional talents. Like the previous side, this one too features lock grooves, this time by Edgar, many of which lean toward more minimal sounds.
