Used to like them quite a bit.
poppish, but catchy simple songwriting. dug where they were taking their sound a few years back, seemed as if they were growing up.

then they found eyeliner and began catering to emos and teenyboppers. are they still around?

I don't mind eyeliner on some guys, but Billy Joe Armstrong looks like a douchebag. Used to like them as well.

it's bad enough when 19 year olds rock the eyeliner because its the "hip" trend. but when people pushing 40 do it to stay "hip" it's borderline tragic

They are 'on a break' so maybe, maybe not.

Check out their live DVD, Bullet In A Bible, it's pretty good, they talk a lot live, but they're good.

I don't have much respect for their music, but their stage presence + ability to write multiple hits is ace whether I enjoy it or not. The whole makeup/eyeliner thing looks pretty bad imo but it's still better than all the hair metal bands I like.

"american idiot" = "tommy" for generation y

    • First song of theirs I knew was "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" b/c it was playing at graduation.Jaline1/3

except american idiot was extremely cliche, bland, and lacking of any poignant lyrical content.scottON3/3

old stuff used to be so much better, not just greenday but bands like blink 182, offspring, no use for a name etc all actually made some decent music before they wet mainstream..

    • All these bands were very popular when I was in middle school.Jaline1/2
      Genre = American pop punk

Warning was a great album in my opinion. quirky songwriting but still so very catchy.

@ jaline, good riddance was fucking EVERYWHERE. people sucked onto that like leeches. it's a good song but it's odd when a "punk" band becomes so popular that their song is featured in photo montage videos, tv shows, commercials, graduations and retirements. i guess you could say that it's selling out, but you can't expect that kind of success. its probably surreal.

    • Oh, I know. Everyone got sick of that song quickly.Jaline

My Dad was humming this tune the other day and I said that sounds familiar what is it? American Idiot by Green Day, he says.

    • then you ask why he's listening to that. he screams "you just don't understand me!" and locks himself in his room7point341/3

I never understood bands that sound like they're crying and yelling at the same time.

Really? i saw one of their first shows in Norfolk Virginia when I was 16... sadly I'm 34 and still have all their stuff in rotation. I'd say that was a decent change in age :)
