My boss sent me this email, I jus started here and it's a financial co (which is all new to me). We mainly provide maintain a informational and account management portal/crm. Every time I have an idea they look at me like I'm nutz :s
Here's the email:
Please come up with one tangible, actionable item that we (technology) can improve at (our co) by next Friday. This needs to be something realistic and technology related.Examples:
Good idea: CRM will read your mind and you do not need to input search parameters....Bad Idea: Have more ice cream socials at work
I believe between the three of us, we can formulate and build/create several significant improvements.
??? Idea? Anything? Where do I start?

isn't it better to think about what the user wants than just come up with ideas. i'd review your "portal/crm" whatever that is and see if it is easy to use and performs everything your users need. no point coming up with new ideas and features if people don't need it.

Their example makes it sound like they are looking for a joke.

noo no jokes. Yea I am thinking of what feliz is saying, Our portal could be friendlier and possibly have more of a community type feel

Uhm ... "CRM will read your mind and you do not need to input search parameters".
I would reply-all (perhaps even to the entire company) with:
Good Idea: Consider this my two week notice.
Bad Idea: Staying here working for anyone who concocts e-mails like the douche who sent this to me.
